As an Elder, my role is to support our Pastor and the other Elders in providing pastoral care for the members of the church and the community. I believe that the role as an Elder requires me to, first of all, be an example to the members, on how a faithful follower of Christ lives. It might also require at other times, giving biblical counsel or advice, and praying for, and with members. Supporting members who are unable to attend church by enabling participation in the communion service at their homes is also part of the duties expected.
Inspiration for Your Role: Jesus asked Peter (after His resurrection) if he loved Him, and Peter replied, “Yes Lord, you know I love you!” Jesus then instructed him, “Feed my sheep!” I believe that instruction is given to me also, and inspires my complete commitment to obey Him.
Favourite Text: Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Why is this your favourite bible text: Many years ago, in a period of great personal stress, I went to the pastor of my church at the time, seeking his help and counsel. He turned to this text, read it, and then prayed with me. I have found it very comforting ever since to know that God is always with me and always helping me.
Here at Hampstead Church, we try to value every individual as Jesus does. We want to be inclusive irrespective of people’s race, social status, background etc. We try to perfect the art of being a welcoming church to all who come through our doors.
